ExtraFTP is a copy and rebrand of FileZilla (an open source, free FTP client). For proof, click here.
All the Extra Software did was make very minor cosmetic modifications like change and reorganize the buttons on the main program window. In form and function, ExtraFTP is exactly FileZilla. What Extra Software is doing with ExtraFTP is illegal.
Since FileZilla is released under the GNU General Public License it is 100% legal to modify FileZilla, rebrand it, and even sell it (although it is extremely shameful and unethical in my eyes to make minor cosmetic modifications, call it your own program, and try to profit off the hard work of the FileZilla development team). What makes the actions of Extra Software illegal is this: as per GPL terms, if you modify, rebrand, and sell any GPL licensed software, you must follow the terms and conditions set by the GPL license. These terms include, but are not limited to:
* A copy of the source code or written instructions about how to get a copy must be included with the software. If the software is able to be downloaded from the internet, the source code must also be available for downloading.
* The license of the software can not be changed or removed. It must always use the GPL.
No where on ExtraFTP or ExtraFTP's page on Extra Software's website do I see it mention ExtraFTP is licensed under the GNU General Public License nor do I see any link to download the source code. Bad, bad, bad! :@
Taking all that into consideration, I am going to put my foot down and refuse to review ExtraFTP. This is very distasteful of Extra Software.
If you need a good FTP client, go for the real deal instead of a rip-off; grab FileZilla.
There is one last thing I want to say before I end this comment. It is inevitable people will come here and bash GOTD for the actions of Extra Software. I believe it is unfair to blame GOTD for this. Less being active FileZilla users, there is no way GOTD could have known ExtraFTP is an illegal rip-off of FileZilla. I myself would not have caught this if I were not a FileZilla fan. While I agree GOTD has messed up in the past on certain issues on some giveaways, today is not really GOTD's fault in my opinion.
FileZilla is the best freeware for FTP no need to pay,
although it is not mentioned it runs on windows 7 as well.
Ok, so after reading Ashraf's comments I thought this was pretty crappy situation today, but I really could use an auto FTP client, I currently use FileZilla but have not had success at setting up auto scheduled transfers, so I thought since that feature is identified I thought I would give it a try. Well so far I can't find anyway to set up auto scheduled transfers with this either, so I went to the website using the Help tab, and it does take you to the website, and they do have a promotion page, but Help -- guess again, nowhere on their site can I find any instance of help related to this application, plenty of entries for their other applications but not this one. That makes me think they did a quick skin job on FileZilla and pushed this out there just to get people to take a look at their name and other products. So for one of the very very few times I am throwing my 2 cents in and saying this one is a big loser at best and at worse maybe even a straight out liar. Sorry GOTD but you dropped the ball today.
On another note, please note that one can ftp files from PC to Host without installing any ftp software. Windows Explorer already has ftp function. You just need to know how to configure it.
Go to "My Network Places", then "Add a network place", then click "See some Examples", then configure ftp://username@yourdomain. the next screen it will prompt for your ftp login password to your host. Key it in and you are done.
Once you get the hang of it, it is simple to configure.
The advantage of ftp with Window Explorer is obvious. Your host directory is just like a mapped remote harddisk to your PC.
Note: An important update for this program has been released - make sure you get it instead.

Das Open Source Freiwild sei soll ist die dümmste Aussage die ich seit langem gehört habe. Les dir die Lizenzen doch erst mal durch bevor du so einen Käse schreibst. Hier wird nicht nur der Entwickler von FileZilla betrogen sondern auch der User!
Was hier passiert ist Diebstahl!
Das Programm nutzt den Quellcode von FileZilla (unter GPL Lizenz). Auch nach Anfrage bekommt man den modifizierten Quellcode nicht. Und auch an andere Bedingungen der GPL hält sich der Hersteller nicht! Er hat also überhaupt kein Recht den Quellcode von FileZilla zu nutzen. Wobei GPL eine kommerzielle Nutzung nicht einmal ausschliessen würde - solange man die Lizenz befolgt!

Selbst wenn Open Source Code in kommerzielle Programme integriert würde, wäre das noch lange kein Grund für eine Klage. Unter den geschätzten 140 verschiedenen Lizenzmodellen ist Open Source so etwas wie Freiwild.. jeder kann sich bedienen.
Ausserdem sehe ich keine besondere Ählichkeit zu FileZilla, wäaren da schon einmal die extremen Unterschiede bei der Programmgröße und ausserdem der unterschiedliche Funktionsumfang. FTP Software sieht heute nuneinmal so aus. Einer schaut beim anderen ab. Filezilla kam ja auch erst recht spät auf den Markt und bedient sich hemmungslos verschiedenster bewährter althergebrachter Konzepte.
Für lau ist das heutige Programm ausgezeihnet...Danke!

Fresh FTP ist auch kostenlos, habe ich aber nicht getestet. Ist mit anscheinend maschinenübersetztem Englisch zu Deutsch, etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Danke für die guten Hinweise. Als registrierter Nutzer des TC's, habe ich diese TC-Funktionen, noch nicht genutzt. So kann ich mir hier, Dank Deines Hinweises, dieses Programm ersparen. Habe bereits gestern, auf TC Version 7.50 aktualisiert.

ich glaube kaum das das Programm legal ist, Denn es ist ein modizierte Filezilla Programm. Mit dem Unterschied das dieses Programm Shareware ist und Filezilla Opensource. Verdammt mies auf andere Kosten (hier filezilla) Geld machen zu wollen. Normal muß ExtraFTp den Quellcode offenlegen und kein Shareware draus machen.
Daher Daumen runter und nutzt lieber das Original Filezilla

FileZilla ist Opensource und das hier wurde nur geringfügig verändert und wird uns hier als eigenständige Software verkauft. Deshalb auch der Effekt beim Update.

Hallo
Habs runter geladen , installiert und freigeschaltet. Nachdem ein Update Test über die Einstellungen stattfand wird mitgeteilt, neues Update vorhanden. Klar runtergeladen und was ist es: nicht 'Extra FTP' sondern 'FileZilla FTP Client'. Na ja, habs installiert und sieht so aus wie das kostenpflichtige Programm, der wichtige Unterschied ist dieses ist in Deutsch und kostenlos. Nun habe ich 2 FTP Clienten. Werde die mal beide testen. Aber schon komisch, wenn man als Update ein anderes Programm bekommt über den ExtraFTP Update Button!

Festplattenspeicher ist so günstig geworden. (bekomm ich auch immer zu hören, wenn Magix Programme gelobt werden)

Ich frage mich nur, warum ein Filezilla-Update gestartet wird, wenn man bei ExtraFTP den Updatesuche laufen lässt!? Ausser ein paar schöne Icons sehe ich keinen Unterschied zu Filezilla.

FTP-Up- und Downlodas erledigt bei mir der TotalCommander, der sowieso immer offen ist, weil er auch gleich den Explorer ersetzt. Oder besser zwei Explorer. Und fast beliebig viele FTP-Fenster. TotalCommander ist so gut, dass er Geld kostet. Wer keines hat, dem empfehle ich Filezilla als OpenSource-FTP-Client. Gibts übrigens auch in einer eingedeutschten Version für die, die im Englisch-Unterricht immer hinter der Säule saßen.

Die „Key Features” sind Wort für Wort aus der FileZilla-Beschreibung rüberkopiert – bis auf zwei zusätzliche Features, die FileZilla nicht hat, und neun Features von FileZilla (übrigens kostenlos), die man ausgelassen hat, weil „ExtraFTP” sie nicht hat.
Schon mal eine nette Abwechslung zu Videokonvertern und Systemtieflegern, aber leider trotzdem nicht besonders interessant
