This is probably a good program, but may be overkill for the average home user.

If you just want to transfer the occasional file(s), wetransfer.com is an excellent (and very easy) online service that I've been using for years to send large files and batches of photos. The maximum file size for free accounts is 2gb.

Ros,

Firefox also has a free file sharing service called Firefox Send. You can send up to 1GB files without an account, and up to 2.5GB files by logging into your free Firefox account. It features end-to-end encryption, can be password protected, and a link that automatically expires after an amount of time (5 minutes to 7 days) or number of downloads (1 to 100) that you select. It doesn't appear to be limited to certain file types from what I can tell.

I always worry about back door access to my computers from software like this and stopped installing this kind of Internet access software long time ago.

While I love the prospect of this software, this will leave your PC open to access from the internet. If that thought alone doesn't scare you, then you aren't living under the reality of today's internet. Maybe a little reading up on just how many devices and pieces of software in the world are falling prey to hacking, and just how easily it is being done, might change your mind.

One slight over-site in the programming of this software, or a flaw in any of the third party modules this software might use, and it's game over for you and EVERY device on your network. With the way things are getting hacked these days, I think I'm going to have to pass on this. Thanks for the offer anyway!

This looks like a really cool program. But it should have something to help you configure your router to work properly. There are some instructions in a help file, but it is not easy to get the information out, and it is very complicated. I won't delete it just yet, but it looks like you will need to spend a lot of time to get it to work. Right now I am just not willing to go through it all.

Its not overly complicated, but you do need to know what an IP address is. You access the Internet via your router which has an IP address as far as the 'outside world' is concerned, while your PC (and other kit in your house) have internal IP addresses. So you just need to tell your router, "If anyone connects to you remotely, you don't know what to do with it, so just pass it on to that PC over there". This is where a 'port' then comes into it. Think of that as a marker to identify WHY you want to connect remotely. Access a web server? Thats usually port 80. Access an FTP server? Thats usually port 21. Send an email? Thats usually port 25. So lets pick a number of 8965. Its best to make it quite random, just to keep out people you don't want to connect...
So now you tell your router, "if anyone connects on port 8965 (to use 1AVShare) send it to my main PC (which has the 1AVShare software on it, listening and ready...)
Its slightly more complex, as 1AVShare might be listening on port 2000, but that's fine - so long as you tell the router that its listening on port 8965 (to receive) and sending out on port 2000 (to your PC).

I've confused you more now, haven't I....
